First Responder Counselling

Having grown up in a first responder family spanning three generations, I understand the immense pressures, traumatic experiences, and mental health consequences that come with the job.

In addition to my lived experience, I am a good-standing member of the Wounded Warrior Clinician Directory listing healthcare providers who have completed occupational awareness training to support emergency personnel in their mental health.

Common Challenges

I specialize in supporting the mental health needs of those on the front lines—police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency personnel. The emergency personnel I work with face unique mental health challenges which might include:

  • Repeated trauma exposure

  • Heightened irritability and anger or difficulty balancing emotions

  • Feeling ‘switched on’ or hypervigilant, like you can’t relax

  • Increased urge to escape or numb through activities like extreme sports or substance use

  • Family and relationship challenges

  • Burnout and compassion fatigue

  • Organizational trauma

  • Sleep deprivation and physical exhaustion

Our Work Together

The constant exposure to high-stakes situations and the need to remain composed under pressure can take a toll on our sense of resiliency and detract from our quality of life and relationships. My goal is to provide a safe, confidential, and understanding space where first responders can address the mental and emotional challenges that are facing them on the job and in their personal lives.

In our work we might aim to:

  • Improve emotional regulation

  • Address relational concerns

  • Process traumatic experiences

  • Build on your existing resilience
